THE KLEINWALSERTAL

Kleinwalsertal is a valley in Vorarlberg, in western Austria and on the border with Germany (Oberstdorf). The villages of Riezlern, Hirschegg, Mittelberg and Baad together make up the 15 km long valley. The villages are surrounded by impressive mountain peaks and lushes green mountain meadows. It's not for nothing that this area is named "the most beautiful corner of the world."

Kleinwalsertal was first settled around the 13th century by the Walsers, immigrants from the Swiss Valais. Despite its unique location, Kleinwalsertal is very popular for tourists all year round.

 

In winter, sports enthusiasts explore the large ski area which is also shared with Oberstdorf. The Walser ski lifts invite you to ski on perfectly groomed slopes and cross-country trails. Otherwise, the Kleinwalsertal is very popular with cyclists, hikers, families and nature lovers. There are countless options for active and peace-seeking guests to fulfil their most beautiful days of the year.

Hiking in the Kleinwalsertal

A hike in the Kleinwalsertal area means a hike between 1100 and 2500 meters. There are many quiet and easy routes in the valley to chose from, however there are also challenging hikes for those who prefer something harder. Kleinwalsertal offers you around 200 kilometers of well-marked hiking trails for all levels of difficulty.

Kleinwalsertal is a great destination for families with children of all ages. Under the guidance of the mascot Burmi, the marmot, which is also called Burmenta by the locals, the little ones are introduced to the mountains and nature. You can encounter Burmi at various locations and activities in the valley. Adolescents will also be happy with a variety of experiences that they can partake in. For example, visiting the climbing park and the summer toboggan run on Söllereck. Everyone can also cool down on warm days at Riezlern outdoor pool, on the Schwarzwasserbach and right near the border in Germany there is the Freibergsee. The Breitachklamm also offers a cool and amazing experience.

In addition to hiking, you can also discover a lot by bike in the Kleinwalsertal. From a pleasant bike tour through the valley to a challenging mountain bike trail through the mountains, everything is possible! If you do not have your own bicycle, you can rent them at various locations in the valley.

While skiing, enjoy the wonderful mountain panorama in the "Zweiländerskigebiet" or the endless views of cross-country skiing. 130 km of ski runs and 50 km of cross-country trails (classic and skating) are prepared daily for our guests. But hikers have also been thought of with more than 70 km of winter hiking trails in the valley. Higher up you can make snow shoe tours or a ski tour. It is precisely this wonderful combination of sporting activities and relaxation that makes the difference in the Kleinwalsertal.
